Thai has no articles and barely conjugates its verbs, so its highest-frequency words are almost all pronouns, particles, and a compact set of workhorse verbs. Words like เป็น, มี, and ไม่ turn up constantly, in speech and in writing alike. Learn these hundred well and you already have the scaffolding most sentences hang on.
How to use this list
Do not work through this list top to bottom. Read down it and mark only the words you could not have produced yourself. Those are your list. The rest are already yours, and reviewing them is wasted effort better spent on words you actually meet in reading, conversation, or subtitles.

The ones English speakers get wrong
No spaces between words
Thai is written without spaces between words within a sentence, with spaces instead marking the end of a clause or sentence. This means reading Thai requires learning to segment a continuous string of characters into words, a skill that comes with vocabulary exposure rather than any punctuation rule.
Tones
Thai has five tones, and changing the tone changes the meaning entirely, even when the spelling looks similar otherwise. 'มา' (mid tone) means come, 'ม้า' (falling tone) means horse, and 'หมา' (rising tone) means dog. Getting the tone wrong doesn't just sound off, it can produce a completely different word.
ครับ and ค่ะ
These polite particles go at the end of a sentence and are chosen by the speaker's gender, not the listener's. Men use 'ครับ', women use 'ค่ะ' in statements and 'คะ' in questions. Dropping them isn't wrong, but including them is what makes speech sound polite and complete in everyday conversation.
ผม, ฉัน, and ดิฉัน
Thai has several words for 'I', and the right one depends on the speaker's gender and the formality of the situation. Men typically use 'ผม', while women use 'ฉัน' casually or 'ดิฉัน' more formally. Pronouns in Thai carry social information English pronouns don't, so choosing one is really a choice about tone and relationship.
Classifiers
Counting objects in Thai requires a classifier word that matches the noun's category, placed after the number. Books use 'เล่ม' and people use 'คน', so 'two books' is 'หนังสือสองเล่ม' rather than just a number plus a noun. English has a few of these too, like 'two sheets of paper', but Thai requires one for nearly everything you count.
What to do next
A list this size is about two weeks of light daily review, and it is the difference between decoding Thai and following it.
