Bangla sentences lean on a compact set of pronouns, particles, and everyday verbs far more than on rare vocabulary. These hundred words are the ones you will hear again and again, whether you are reading, listening, or just trying to order tea. Master them first and the rest of the language starts to feel much more approachable.
How to use this list
Do not work through this list top to bottom. Read down it and mark only the words you could not have produced yourself. Those are your list. The rest are already yours, and reviewing them is wasted effort better spent on words you actually meet in reading, conversation, or subtitles.

The ones English speakers get wrong
তুই, তুমি, and আপনি
Bangla has three words for 'you', each carrying a different register: তুই is very intimate or used with children, তুমি is the everyday familiar form for friends and peers, and আপনি is the respectful form used with strangers and elders. The verb ending changes depending on which one you use.
postpositions, not prepositions
Words like থেকে (from), মধ্যে (in), and সাথে (with) come after the noun they attach to, not before it. 'ঢাকা থেকে' literally reads 'Dhaka from' but means 'from Dhaka', the reverse of English word order.
verb goes last (SOV order)
Bangla sentences are built subject-object-verb, so the verb almost always comes at the end: 'আমি ভাত খাই' reads word for word as 'I rice eat'. English speakers often want to put the verb in the middle out of habit.
কাল can mean yesterday or tomorrow
Used alone, কাল can mean either 'yesterday' or 'tomorrow' depending on the tense of the verb in the sentence. Bangla also has unambiguous words, গতকাল (yesterday) and আগামীকাল (tomorrow), which are safer to use until the context-based version feels natural.
পানি vs. জল
Both words mean 'water', but পানি is the everyday word in Bangladesh while জল is standard in West Bengal, India. Which one sounds natural depends on which regional variety of Bangla you are learning.
